Female Dictators?
As some of you know, at work our test workstations are named after rather ruthless dictators. We have a saddam, a khomeni, a mussolini, a hitler, etc. We also have a mao, but someone in the grad dorms has taken that one while we weren't paying attention, so we need to rename it.
I would like to name it after a famous female dictator, but there haven't really been that many. Ideas that were tossed around were Imelda Marcos and Cleopatra, but they don't really fit the bill. Chris wants to use the only empress of China, and that's fine, but I wanted to ask y'all if there is anyone we are forgetting.
(no nominations for Margaret Thatcher or Laura Bush please. Hillary Clinton is fine though...)

5. Martie McGee says:
Thursday, September 20, 2007 at 07:18 AMThere have been very few women leaders since males are usually dominate in this role. Because of this, we naturally would not see as many female dictators. But, women can be just as ruthless as any man. How many dictators are really doing the bidding of a woman? Consider Herod's beheading John the Baptist. If we were to search history, it might just surprise one to see that women can be as cruel as any man.

Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 11:08 PMAlthough there have been no official female dictators doesnt mean there couldnt be. Woman can be ruthless, fortunatly most are more levelheaded than that though. there have been woman rulers.. just look into british history pre-1500. Medb, Boudicca, Cartimandua.... all Queens who strived to peotect their people, some being brutal in the process.

Thursday, December 24, 2009 at 08:10 PMHow about Elena Ceausescu, not actually the dictator but was the wife of the Romanian dictator and she herself contributed to the elimination of birth control in Romania, creating tens of thousands of unwanted children and ruining many lives, and causing many of those children to suffer and live in deplorable conditions in state orphanages. She is also responsible for the massive AIDS epidemic that took place there by denying it's existence while she was in charge of the State Health Commission. Just as well she destroyed several thousand churches while her husband was in power, and started the food rationing that took place in Romania in the early eighties.
